My work on Minneapolis, Minnesota-based digital artist Kyle Schuler’s portfolio was one of my first freelance web development projects, and it was all a matter of simple is better. After talking about what he wanted in a portfolio site, we decided it would be best if we built a single-page site that he could update himself as needed.
I worked up a simple design that uses jQuery to position all his artwork in a “masonry-style” grid that kept accoutrement to a minimum. He didn’t want lengthy descriptions about each piece, so we decided to make the site purely a place for his imagery.

I developed a custom JavaScript function that provides the “lightbox” feature when visitors click on various images. This automatically finds and loads larger versions of the images, if they are available.
